Man Convicted In Ventura County Murder Scheme Found Dead In Jail Cell

Posted on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 2:56pm

Ventura County Sheriff’s Department officials say a man convicted in a murder for hire scheme this month killed himself in jail.

Barry Carlisi was found hanging in his cell at the Todd Road Jail facility Monday afternoon, and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The 57 year old Bell Canyon man was convicted November 16th of planning the kidnapping, and murder of a man, which was stopped before it could occur.

Authorities say they found out about the plot through the person Carlisi solicited to commit the killing.

The man secretly recorded some of the conversations, helping to convict the Ventura County man. Prosecutors say Carlisi wanted the man dead because of a custody dispute the target was involved in with his family.
