The owner of two South Coast medical facilities announced plans to lay off 50 employees.
The affected employees at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo received notices they will lose their jobs as of the end of January.
Hospital officials say the move is part of an adjustment in staffing being made as a part of federal health care law changes, and they cite fewer patients, and other financial issues for the action. The majority of those receiving layoff notices are registered nurses.
Dignity Health, which owns the hospitals, is a private, non-profit organization.
