A strike which has idled the ports of Los Angeles, and Long Beach so far isn’t impacting the Port of Hueneme.
Clerical workers from the International Longshore and Warehouse Union picketed terminals in Los Angeles, and Long Beach today,
shutting down shipping operations.
An arbitrator had ruled that the reasons were for the walkout were invalid, but dockworkers refused to cross picket lines today.
Union officials claim that shippers are trying to outsource clerical jobs, while company officials say that isn’t true, and that the union is seeking to for them to add more workers.
Talks broke off Monday, and no new negotiations have been scheduled. The Port of Hueneme doesn’t have the same type of union clerical workers as the other two Southern California ports.
