Santa Barbara Community College To Try New Approach For Non-Credit Courses

Santa Barbara City College is preparing to take a new approach with non-credit classes it’s been offering for years.

Hit hard by budget cuts, the college has decided it needs to focus its funding on core educational classes. It’s creating a new Center for Lifelong Learning, with a goal of continuing to offer non-credit enrichment classes, and seminars. The classes will be fee based, so the program will be self supporting.

The college district is holding three community forums this week to try to get ideas on what type of programs people would like to see offered through the Center, which is scheduled for launch next fall. The first forum will be from 5:30-7 tonight, at City College’s Wake Center Auditorium in Goleta.

Forums are also set for the Main School Auditorium, in Carpinteria at noon on Thursday, and City College’s Schott Center Auditorium at noon on Friday.
