Thousands of Santa Barbara and Ventura County residents are getting what may be an unpleasant surprise in the mail…an unexpected bill for fire protection services.
A new state fee for homeowners in rural areas means people are getting bills of up to $150 dollars per habitable structure.
The bills have already been arriving in Santa Barbara County, and will start to arrive in Ventura County in the next two weeks.
