Ventura County officials say an innovative approach to dealing with homeless campsites along a section of the Ventura River may be showing success, when past efforts failed to have long term impacts.
Pollution, safety issues, and even brush fires caused by the campers have been an ongoing problem in the area west of Ventura.
In this new approach, the homeless have been moved to temporary housing, and a variety of services offered to help them get back on their feet, while the campsites were not only removed, the heavy vegetation hiding them was eradicated.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco has the story.
