Fire investigators are now confirming that a brushfire in Santa Barbara County’s foothills above Montecito this week was manmade.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department Captain David Sadecki says the Cold Fire was directly related to human activity. But, officials aren’t saying whether they think the blaze was accidental, or intentionally set.
The fire started just after noon on Tuesday near Cold Springs Trail, off of Mountain Drive. It prompted the evacuation of homes in the area, but firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to the houses.
The three acre blaze was fully contained in about six hours. Authorities talked to hikers who were on the trail at the time of the fire, but are looking for potential witnesses who may have witnessed suspicious activity.
