In a battle of two local state legislators hoping to step up to Congress, Democratic Assemblywoman Julia Brownley defeated Republican State Senator Tony Strickland for Ventura County’s new 26th District Congressional seat. Brownley beat Strickland by a 52% to 48% margin.
Democratic Congresswoman Lois Capps easily won re-election in the 24th District, which includes parts of Santa Barbara County, and parts of San Luis Obispo, and Ventura Counties. She defeated former Lieutenant Governor Abel Maldonado, by a 55% to 45% percent margin.
In a congressional race which received national attention, because it pitted two well known Democrats against each other, Brad Sherman defeated Howard Berman by a roughly 60% to 40% margin. While the 30th District is mostly in Los Angeles County, it includes a small sliver of Ventura County.
