Posted on Monday, October 29, 2012 3:51pm

They had to travel all the way to the East Coast to settle the competition, but two South Coast teams faced off today for the world mock trial championships. Now, they’re stuck there because of Hurricane Sandy.

A squad from La Reina High School, in Thousand Oaks narrowly defeated the squad from Goleta’s Dos Pueblos High School, to win the 2012 Empire City Mock Trial Invitational Tournament.

It’s the second year in a row the Catholic school in Thousand Oaks won the national title.

Because of Hurricane Sandy, the championships were moved from the Brooklyn Courthouse, to a ballroom at the Brooklyn Marriott.

The two teams are staying at the hotel until the storm passes.
