Oxnard School District Teacher Fired For Adult Film Work Testifies In Appeal Hearing

Posted on Friday, October 26, 2012 12:24am

An Oxnard middle school science teacher fired after school officials learned she had appeared in adult videos before she became a teacher testified she made the movies out of desperation, and because she wanted to help her family.

Stacie Halas appeared before the three person Commission on Professional Competence, as part of her appeal of her dismissal from the Oxnard School District.

The district’s Board of Trustees voted to fire the 32 year old Haydock Intermediate School teacher after the videos surfaced last March.

Her attorney says she worked in adult films in 2005 and 2006, more than three years before she joined the Oxnard district.

But, district officials contend she never told them about her past, and lied when confronted about it. They say her return to the classroom would be disruptive.
Halas told the panel she regretted making the films, but turned her life around as a teacher.

When the hearing ends, the panel will decide whether the firing should be upheld, or Halas should be given another chance with the district.
