A CHP officer was injured when his parked patrol car was struck by an erratic driver.
The CHP received multiple calls just after 5 last night about a car being driven erratically on the southbound 101, near Padaro Lane in Santa Barbara County. The vehicle was reported to be involved in two hit and run collisions.
A CHP officer positioned his patrol car on the southbound 101 near West Main Street, in Ventura so he could intercept the car. However, the car veered across the freeway lanes, and slammed into the back of the CHP unit.
The officer escaped with minor injuries, as did the driver of the car, who was identified as Robert Hurlbett of Santa Barbara. CHP investigators say a medical condition led to the erratic driving, and accident caused by the 66 year old man.
