Santa Barbara County is gearing up for its annual influx of teenagers, and young adults headed to Isla Vista for Halloween related parties.
In the past, upwards of 40,000 people have shown up for the unsponsored, unsactioned street parties in the community next to UC Santa Barbara.
In recent years, law enforcement officials have cracked down on people in the streets with things like open alcohol containers, leading to a reduction in the crowds in IV.
For this year, the county is using its “Avoid the 12” campaign to help, which includes sending law enforcement officers from other agencies in to help beef up the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department in Isla Vista.
Members of the Lompoc, and Santa Barbara Police Departments will help patrol Goleta this Saturday and Sunday, and the CHP will also beef up staffing looking for DUI drivers in the area.
