Lawsuit Seeks To Block New Simi Valley Ordinance Banning Sexual Offenders From Opening Homes To Trick-Or-Treaters

Posted on Saturday, October 20, 2012 12:24am

An attorney has filed suit in federal court seeking to block a new Simi Valley ordinance which would restrict the involvement of convicted sexual offenders from participating in Halloween events with children.

The City Council passed an ordinance which bans sex offenders from putting up Halloween decorations at the homes, and requires them to put up signs saying they don’t have candy at their houses.

It also calls for the offenders to turn off all lighting from 5 p.m. to midnight.

Attorney Janice Bellucci filed a suit on behalf of some sex offenders living in Simi Valley, challenging the ordinance’s constitutionality.

The suit seeks a temporary restraining order to block the ordinance from being implemented.
