A woman who Ventura Police initially thought was the victim of a shooting is now being called the suspect in a dispute in which she accidentally wounded herself.
The incident happened October 4th, on the 1100 block of Carlsbad Place in Ventura.
Police were called to a home, where they say Erica Landeros told them she had been shot in the leg during a confrontation.
However, detectives say the story didn’t match with the facts. They believe what really happened is that the 25 year old woman brandished a gun during an argument, and the victim pushed some furniture into the woman so he could escape. The gun went off, wounding the woman as the man fled. She wasn’t seriously injured.
Police say Landeros is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and felon in possession of a firearm.
