San Marcos Pass Residents Notified Of Brushfire: Huge Plume Of Smoke Visible

Posted on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 8:45am

Firefighters are battling a brushfire on San Marcos Pass that’s led to the shutdown of Highway 154.

The blaze was reported just before 8 a.m. in the Laurel Springs area, off of Highway 154.

Santa Barbara County, U-S Forest Service, and Painted Cave Volunteer Fire Department firefighters are all involved in the effort.

Aircraft are being used to fight the fire.

The fire has been burning in a drainage area, and some power lines are reported to be down. Some structures may be threatened.

While the weather has been hot the last few days, there’s little wind reported, which could be a key in firefighters efforts to control the blaze.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department is using its reverse 911 system to let people in the Painted Cave area know about the blaze.
