A man being investigated for DUI in Santa Barbara was arrested after his dog bit a police officer.
Officers were responding to a call of someone passed out in a car just after 5 p.m. Sunday near Lincoln Road, and Hope Avenue.

A neighbor, and an off duty Santa Barbara Police officer had observed the man in his car, and took away the car keys because he appeared drunk.

The man left the car eventually, and went into his house. Arriving officers went to the man’s house.

They knocked on the door, and say Steve Glen Beniak was at first belligerent, and then opened his door to allow one of his dogs, a bloodhound, to rush out and bite one of the officers in the hand.

The officer was treated at a hospital for his injury.

After a more than two hour standoff, the 60 year old man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer, DUI, and driving with a suspended license.
