Environmental Groups Successfully Challenge Approval Of Major New Housing Development In Oxnard

Posted on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 1:51pm

A judge’s ruling over environmental concerns has derailed plans for a new 1500 home development in Oxnard.

A Ventura County Superior Court judge agreed with the contentions of a lawsuit led by the Santa Barbara based Environmental Defense Center that there are flaws with the environmental impact report for the proposed project on Hueneme Road.

Among the issues cited by the judge were potential impacts on the nearby Ormond Wetlands, projected water use by the project, and long term, how the area would be affected by rising sea leaves due to climate change.

The ruling means the project is stalled until the concerns are addressed, or if the city appeals the court ruling, and wins.
