Ventura County Courts officials say that thanks to the support of the county, and some of its cities they will be able to keep a courthouse slated for closure due to state funding cuts open two days a week for the next year.
Courts officials had originally planned to close the East Valley Courthouse, in Simi Valley this past summer due to the funding reductions.
But the County, along with the cities of Simi Valley, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, and Oxnard are contributing money to help fill some of the gap.
It’s not enough to keep the courthouse fully operational, but it will allow people to pay fines and fees at the courthouse, drop off legal documents, handle some small claims cases, as well as traffic cases.
No court proceedings will take place at the East Valley Courthouse on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and many court issues like criminal proceedings will be shifted to the main county court facility, in Ventura.
