An effort to crack down on vehicle thefts in one Ventura County community has led to some stunning results.
During the last two months, nearly 100 vehicles were reported stolen in the City of Oxnard. Police say many of the thefts were due to vehicles left unlocked, or in a number of cases, with the car or truck running, but unattended.
So, yesterday morning, more than two dozen police officers and traffic assistants patrolled areas hardest hit by the thefts.
47 motorists were cited for leaving vehicles unattended, with keys in the ignition, and the motors running. Police are hoping the crackdown will get people to be more careful about making it easy for people to steal their vehicles.
