The head of a financially struggling Santa Barbara County agency which helps people deal with substance abuse, and mental health issues has announced she will step down next month.
Ann Detrick has been head of the Santa Barbara County Department of Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Services for nearly five years.
The agency has been squeezed by a tight budget, plus increased demand for services, and has been criticized by some for its spending priorities.
Detrick says she wants to move to a position where she can focus less on financial issues, and more on actually providing services.
She’s set to leave November 9th.
County officials haven’t announced how they will handle choosing a replacement, but Detrick says she will try to help with a smooth transition.
