Plans to expand a high end resort in Santa Barbara County have been dropped.
The Bacara Resort And Spa had applied to add 50 condominiums, and hotel rooms on 13 acres of undeveloped land adjacent to its existing complex.
The proposal drew opposition from the environmental community, because the expansion would have been on restored coastal sage habitat.
But, after meeting with community members about the concerns, new owners of the resort announced they would drop the expansion plans.
The 311 room resort opened in the year 2000, after a long, and bitter fight with neighbors, and the environmental community who felt it was a poor fit with the pristine section of coastline in western Goleta.
