Ventura County Men Arrested For Robbing, Attacking Bicyclist With Beer Bottle

Posted on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 12:45pm

Three men are facing assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and conspiracy charges after Ventura Police say they stopped a man riding home from work on a bicycle, attacked him, and stole his wallet.

It happened at around one this morning, on Seaward Avenue. The three men were in a car which passed the bicyclist. The driver made a u-turn, and they blocked the bicyclist’s path, causing him to stop. Police say Jose Lira, Juan Moreno, and Anthony Rodriguez then began punching and kicking the victim, and one of them hit the man in the head with a beer bottle.

The three Santa Paula men then fled on the southbound 101 Freeway, but police stopped, and arrested them near Victoria Avenue. The victim suffered face and head injuries, but is expected to recover.
