A UC Santa Barbara student who killed four people with his car on an Isla Vista sidewalk will apparently spend some more time in a state mental hospital, before being transferred to a lower level facility.
David Attias ran down five people in February of 2001, killing four of them. The student called himself the “Angel of Death”, and even tried to block medical aid for his victims before he was restrained.
Attias will spend 30 days more than expected at Patton State Hospital before he will be transferred to an unlocked facility for further treatment.
It’s expected he spend about a year and a half at the undisclosed facility. He was ruled insane, but he could eventually petition to have that decision overturned.
