Nine Arrested In Oxnard Protest Against Genetically Modified Seeds

Posted on Thursday, September 13, 2012 9:21am

Nine demonstrators were arrested as they attempted to blockade entrances to an Oxnard seed plant, as a protest against the use of genetically modified seeds.

A group calling itself Occupy Monsanto showed up at the shipping and receiving gates at Monsanto’s Camino Del Sol facility yesterday.

Oxnard Police say some of the two dozen protesters shackled themselves to their vehicles which were parked in the driveways.
Firefighters had to be called to cut loose the demonstrators, so they could be moved, and arrested. The event was peaceful.

The demonstration was part of what the protesters say is a week of events at Monsanto facilities around the world, all aimed at trying to block the use of genetically modified seeds.

None of those arrested were from Ventura County.
