A historic aviary in Ventura County that’s more than a half century old has survived a brush with closure.
Ventura County officials were going to shut down the Steckel Park Aviary, because it’s dilapidated, and the county doesn’t have the money to update it.
The community rallied to raise money to save it.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports a big step towards renovation took place yesterday at the facility near Santa Paula, as the birds were moved to make way for the renovations.
