Santa Barbara’s Fire Chief has announced he’s going to retire, after nearly four decades in public service.
Andrew DiMizio will step down in December, after 32 years with the city’s fire department, and 38 years as a firefighter. He started with the department as a firefighter in 1980, and worked his way up through the ranks, to become chief in 2009.
In addition to firefighting operations, the chief oversaw renovations of the department’s Fire Station Number One, construction of a new emergency operations center, and development of a five year plan for fire prevention, preparedness, and response.
City officials are currently looking at what type of process they may use to choose a replacement.
