Santa Barbara County has been struggling with only about half of the estimated 30 beds it needs on a regular basis for in-house psychiatric treatment.
The county has been forced to send some of its seriously mentally ill out of the county, because there simply aren’t adequate places to treat them.
Now, a hospital is proposing to team up with the county, to use a wing of its old facility as a consolidated mental health treatment center.
