Ventura City Council Follows Through On Ouster Of City Manager

Posted on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 5:57am

The Ventura City Council officially accepted the resignation of its city manager, who was ousted by a majority of council members earlier this month.

Rick Cole formally agreed to step down as City Manager last night, after eight years on the job.

Mayor Mike Tracy, along with council members Cheryl Heitman, Christy Weir, and Jim Monahan voted to accept Cole’s resignation in a close 4-3 vote. They didn’t detail their differences with Cole.

The council appointed former Ventura County CEO Johnny Johnston as interim City Manager. The retired government official agreed to fill the post temporarily for no pay or benefits, to give the city time to find a replacement for Cole.
