Bank Teller Foils Lottery Scam In Ventura

Posted on Friday, September 7, 2012 2:06pm

An alert bank teller is being credited with foiling an attempt by two scam artists to cheat a senior citizen, in a lottery scam.

Two women met the victim yesterday on East Main Street in Ventura, and claimed to have a winning lottery ticket, but said they couldn’t cash it because they were in the U.S. illegally. They offered to exchange the ticket with the woman in exchange for about $30,000 in cash.

The two drove the 61 year old woman, who didn’t speak English, to her bank. The teller asked the woman why she was withdrawing such a large amount, and when she told the teller about the lottery ticket, the teller called police.

The two women escaped before police could reach the scene, but officer credit the teller with preventing the victim from being scammed.
