A cigarette is being blamed for starting a fire which sent smoke throughout a self storage facility in Ventura.
The blaze was discovered just after four p.m. Saturday, on the 300 block of South Laurel Street. Ventura firefighters arrived to find smoke in a center hallway leading to multiple storage units. After working their way through the smoke, they isolated the fire to a locked unit.
They were able to put out the blaze before it spread throughout the facility. Fire investigators say the fire was caused by a cigarette which came into contact with some flammable materials in the unit.
