The National Park Service selected a man with nearly two decades in conservation work as the new Superintendent of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

David Szymanski will take over as head of the more than 150,000 acre park network in Ventura, and Santa Barbara Counties this fall. He’s currently Superintendent of Lewis and Clark National Historic Park, and also served at Everglades National Park, and Voyageurs National Park.

He takes over for Woody Smeck, who was transferred to Yosemite National Park after ten years with the Santa Monica Mountain Recreation Area.
