Ventura Police say a homeless man is in custody, suspected of starting a string of arson fires in the city.
Firefighters were called to the Thompson Boulevard area of the city just before 11 last night by a series of fires, set along a mile long stretch of the area. The fires included two homeless campsites, two dumpsters, and two small brush fires. They quickly put out the blazes before they could cause any serious damage.
A witness gave firefighters a description of a man they claim started one of the fires. It led to the arrest of Patrick Mcinenly a short distance away.
Investigators are trying to determine if the 36 year old homeless man might also be linked to a series of arson fires in the Ventura River area earlier this month.
He was booked into the Ventura County jail on arson, and possession of stolen property charges.
