The payment of income taxes are a big issue this week in the 24th District congressional race in the Tri-Counties.
Democratic incumbent Lois Capps, and Republican challenger Abel Maldonado have both been firing shots at each other over income tax issues.
Maldonado has been criticized for some time about income taxes. The IRS says he and his wife owe back taxes, but Maldonado said the problem was related to problems with the family farming business. They cut ties with the business, but a settlement hasn’t been reached with the IRS yet.
Then, this week Capps came under fire for not claiming revenue from a home rental to a former staff member on her tax returns. She said it was an oversight, and immediately paid the back taxes.
