Support is growing to keep the Ventura County’s East County Courthouse from falling victim to the budget ax.
Faced with shutdown because of state budget cuts, some community leaders have asked local governments to chip in funding to help keep the Simi Valley facility open at least two days a week. Ventura County, and Simi Valley had already pledged funding to help support the estimated $550,000 thousand dollars need to keep the facility open for the next two years. Now, this week, the cities of Moorpark, and Thousand Oaks have agreed to contribute to the effort. $340,000 has been pledged so far.
Backers of the effort say without the east county facility, law enforcement officers will have to travel to Ventura to testify in many cases, meaning they will loose important patrol time.
Camarillo said no to the request for help, while Oxnard and Ventura haven’t acted on it yet.
