Santa Barbara County’s Sheriff’s Department, and County Fire Department have officially merged their air operations.
The two agencies combined their services at the direction of County Supervisors as of July 1st, in an effort to try to improve efficiency, while saving money. The agencies are now jointly operating their five helicopters, and one light plane.
The merger allowed the agencies to increase the hours air support is available to 14 hours a day, seven days a week.
The agencies are set to update County Supervisors on the progress of the merger effort tomorrow.
