Transportation Planners Hoping They Have Solution For Threatened South Coast Commuter Bus Service

Posted on Saturday, July 7, 2012 12:41am

Transportation planners in Ventura County hope they’ve come up with a solution to an unexpected crisis which has threatened some popular commuter bus service in the region.

The Ventura County Transportation Commission had a contract with Coach America to provide “VISTA” bus service connecting some Ventura County communities, as well as the county with Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara counties.

But, the company recently filed for bankruptcy, and announced it would be forced to discontinue service. Coach America agreed to continue service until the end of this month to give the Transportation Commission the chance to find a new service provider.

The Commission announced it’s pursuing a proposal with Camarillo based Roadrunner Shuttle.
Roadrunner would use a temporary fleet of reconditioned buses from the Bay area, and hire some of Coach America’s staff.
The Commission is set to consider the proposal next Friday.
