Eight Year Old Boy Drowns In Los Padres National Forest Recreation Area

An eight year old boy is dead, drowning in a swimming area in the Los Padres National Forest, in Santa Barbara County.

The boy was in the Santa Ynez River, off of Paradise Road in the Live Oak Day Use Area when he was reported missing at about one p.m. yesterday. Civilians, and Los Padres National Forest firefighters began searching underwater for the boy, recovering his body about 40 minutes after the first 911 call. The water was described as about 15-20 feet deep, with almost zero visibility.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances surrounding the death are under investigation.
