Demonstrators Call For Transportation Officials To Find Way To Keep Threatened Commuter Bus Service Rolling

Posted on Thursday, June 28, 2012 12:28am

Dozens of people took to the streets of Ventura last night, calling for officials to keep a intercity commuter bus service serving the county from shutting down this weekend.

The contractor providing VISTA bus service between some Ventura County communities, as well as between the county and the San Fernando Valley, and Santa Barbara is in bankruptcy.

Coach America notified the Ventura County Transportation Commission because of the bankruptcy, it would discontinue service at the end of the month.

The commission wants Coach America to temporarily continue service, while it finds a replacement.

The demonstrators near the Ventura County Government Center last night said the service is critical for some carless commuters, and without it, they will be stranded. They called on the Transportation Commission to step up, and find a way to keep the busses rolling while a long term solution is reached.
