Transportation Officials Come Up With Plan To Try To Save Commuter Bus Service In Jeopardy

Posted on Friday, June 22, 2012 11:34am

Transportation officials in Ventura County are scrambling to try to save a commuter bus service potentially facing shutdown, but think they’ve come up with a plan to keep the service operating.

The future of the VISTA bus service is up in the air, after the contractor operating the busses, Coach America, notified the Ventura County Transportation Commission it’s in bankruptcy. The company said it would discontinue VISTA service as of the end of this month.

At a special Ventura County Transportation Commission meeting yesterday, the board approved signing a contract with Coach America to keep the buses rolling at least through July 31st.

The board also authorized the VCTC staff to negotiate a long term contract with a new operator.

About 1500 commuters use the inter-city bus service daily.
