Prosecutors Say Con Man Agrees To Five Year Sentence For Using Bad Checks To Buy New Vehicles In Ventura, Santa Barbara

Posted on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 10:42am

A man prosecutors say used a string of bad checks to buy new vehicles in Ventura and Santa Barbara County, and to dupe some new relatives has agreed to a five year jail sentence.

Ryan Barba of Chino pled guilty to charges including grand theft auto, forgery, and burglary as part of a plea deal which calls for additional charges to be dropped.

The 31 year old man used bad checks to buy some new vehicles, and was in the process of buying more when he was arrested. Investigators say he was also in escrow to buy two homes in the Santa Barbara area, and had also written bad checks of up to a million dollars to some new relatives. He’s still under investigation by authorities in other parts of Southern California.
