Man Gets Four Year Prison Sentence For Sexual Assault In Santa Barbara Parking Structure Elevator

Posted on Friday, June 15, 2012 6:48pm

A man who dragged an unconscious woman into a Santa Barbara parking structure elevator, and sexually assaulted her for about an hour has been sentenced to more than four years in state prison.

Anthony Vasquez had pled no contest to rape, and sexual battery charges.

The 19 year old man might have gotten away with the crime if not for an alert technician, who was reviewing surveillance camera video from the Chapala Street parking structure three days after the assault occurred, and called police.

The video showed Vasquez dragging the woman into the elevator, and then leaving an hour later.

The victim woke up about three hours after he fled, and staggered out, not realizing at the time what had occurred to her. Santa Barbara Police detectives were able to use photos to track down both the victim, and her attacker.
