The Coast Guard was called to help rescue a stranded boat off the Ventura County coastline, but ended up arresting two men, and seizing more than 75 bales of marijuana in the process.
Two men called for help after their boat’s engine stopped about three miles off of Channel Islands Harbor early yesterday morning, at around 3 a.m. When the boat was towed into the harbor, a routine inspection led to the discovery of the marijuana, and the arrest of the men, who are said to be Mexican nationals. Coast Guard officials say there was so much marijuana on the boat, some of it was in plain view, and there was also a strong smell from the bales. The two men were turned over to federal authorities.
