Six U-C Santa Barbara seniors have something big to celebrate besides their graduation. The women will receive cash prizes for their academic accomplishments.
The half dozen students are sharing more than $46,000 from the long disbanded Santa Barbara City Club. The club was established in the 1920’s, but shut down in the 1970’s. At the time, the club members decided its property, and assets should go into fund to reward outstanding female college graduates.
So, each year the top six UCSB female graduates by grade point, as determined by a computer, are surprised with the cash prizes.
