A Ventura County man learned a painful lesson is safe gun handling, when he was accidently wounded when the weapon went off while it was being fixed.

Ventura Police say a 32 year old Ojai man had taken his rifle to a friend’s home in Ventura for repair last night.

As the Ventura man was trying to fix it his house, on the 7600 block of Sable Street, it accidently went off, wounded the gun’s owner in the elbow. Police aren’t identifying the victim of the accident.

Officers say this is an example of why you should never assume a weapon is unloaded.
