Voters Reject Special Parcel Tax Proposals For Schoools, Bridge Plan In Santa Barbara County

Posted on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 5:59am

Voters rejected some proposed new parcel taxes to help schools in Santa Barbara County, to replace some set to expire. Measures W, and X would have charged a combined $108 dollars a year to help Santa Barbara’s elementary, and secondary schools. The measures had a strong showing, but not quite strong enough, needing two-thirds support to pass. It was close. Measure W had a 64% yes vote, to a 36% no vote. Measure X was defeated, getting a 65% yes vote, to a 35% no vote.

And Measure Y, a controversial proposal funded by a developer seeking to get voter approval to build a bridge on public land for a new housing development, in exchange for some environmental improvements to the property, failed by a 66% to 34% margin.
