A new Ventura County Grand Jury report gives jails in the county a passing grade, but also suggests some minor improvements.
In a just released report, the Grand Jury says all 14 jails operated by Ventura County, and various cities meet basic state standards. The study does call for some small improvements. It notes that Oxnard, and Santa Paula jails don’t have easy access to defibrillators, in case someone has a heart attack. It also says that Oxnard’s jail doesn’t have mattresses, bunks, or other off the ground seating.
And, the study points out that the Port Hueneme jail didn’t have food available, and that officers would make fast food runs for inmates. It called for the jail to stock some basic non-perishable snacks.
