Niece of Ventura Murder Victim Arrested Today For The 2009 Killing

Posted on Friday, May 25, 2012 4:49pm

Ventura Police say they made an arrest today in a nearly three year old murder which at the time left many community residents terrified.

It was June 3, 2009 when Wendy Di Rodeo was found stabbed to death in her home, on the 2800 block of Sailor Drive. At the time, some people thought it might be connected with the brutal stabbing death weeks earlier of a Faria Beach couple, and their unborn child, as part of a killing spree. Authorities soon decided the cases were unrelated.

Today, police announced that they arrested the 61-year-old victim’s niece, Gina Drake for DiRodeo’s murder. Drake was the wife of a Ventura Police officer at the time of the killing. He filed for divorce the month the slaying occurred.

Department officials say the officer cooperated fully with the investigation.

Authorities aren’t talking about what they think the motive was for the killing.
