Mother, Two Children Hit By Van On Thousand Oaks Street Tuesday Remain In Hospital

A mother, and two daughters who were struck, and seriously injured while crossing a Thousand Oaks street Tuesday are still in hospitals today, while a third little girl hit at the same time is now back home.

Griselda Castro is in critical condition still at a Thousand Oaks hospital. Her six year old daughter is in critical condition at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and her three year old is in stable condition at the same hospital. The five your old friend of the family was released from the hospital yesterday.

Castro, and the group of kids were crossing the 2600 block of East Thousand Oaks Boulevard just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, when they were hit by a van. The 29 year old woman saw the van coming, and was able get a stroller she was pushing with an infant on board out of the way before the van hit.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident, and is talking to the driver, identified as Carlos Serrano Nino of Downey. Investigators say the pedestrians were properly crossing the street in a crosswalk, but people from nearby businesses say speeding vehicles have been a problem in the area.
