Funding problems have affected many aspects of local government on the South Coast, including public safety agencies. One that’s been hard hit is the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
A consultant’s report says the department is at the point that without millions in additional funding, it can’t maintain fire protection services at current levels.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports Santa Barbara County Supervisors ended some controversy over the issue by approving a plan intended to give the department a solid, expanded source of funding for at least the next dozen years.
