Some Ventura County community have made a top ten list which might surprise you: Cities where manufacturing jobs pay the most. The Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura region has been named fifth in the country on a list by the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program of top salaries for manufacturing.
The study says the average manufacturing wage in the region is $87,000, as opposed to an average wage of $52,000. It cites the area’s information technology industry, computer parts, and pharmaceuticals businesses as big drivers behind the salaries. The Conejo Valley is home to Amgen, which is the world’s largest biotech company.
The study also noted a 22% decline in manufacturing in the region during the last two years.
The national list is topped by the Silicon Valley, with an average manufacturing wage of $144,000.
